Last September 13th, Swedish conductor Per-Otto Johansson opened the season of the Landestheater Detmold (of which he is General Music Director) making his debut in Giacomo Puccini's La Fanciulla del West.

The production by Kay Link, gained a brillant success,  as Jochen Rüth's review for Der Opernfreunde attests:

“In the pit, Per-Otto Johansson inspires the orchestra to perform at the highest level, showing great mastery in presenting Puccini's powerful score. He achieves a wonderful symbiosis of different styles: even when it sounds in some moments like film music and western movies’ music, the distinctive style of the genius from Lucca always shines through.”
