
Per-Otto Johansson: from Jake Heggie to Giacomo Puccini
On October 31, Mº Per-Otto Johansson returns to the podium of the Landestheater Detmold, of which he is Generalmusikdirektor, to conduct Dead Man Walking, the opera by Jake Heggie considered the greatest masterpiece of American music theater of the last 40 years.
The production directed by Georg Heckel debuted last season, receiving a great critical reception: the renowned Opernglas praised the stylistic perfection of Johansson’s direction.
On November 1, Johansson will be on the podium of La Fanciulla del West by Giacomo Puccini, a new production of the Detmold opera house, for which the Swedish conductor gained an authentic personal triumph. Opernglas praised him for the lyrical sensitivity of his interpretation and for his strong theatrical sensitivity, while Der Opernfreund applauded his “exciting ability to bring the orchestra to the highest level, masterfully revealing the powerful Puccini’s score”.
