Jinxin Chen is a Chinese-born dramatic baritone building an international career on the major opera stages of Europe and Asia. He is increasingly recognized for his powerful voice, commanding stage presence, and versatility in both dramatic and lyric repertoire. Recent and upcoming engagements include major solo appearances across Europe and China. Chen completed a successful residency at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, where he performed roles such as Zuniga (Carmen), Monterone (Rigoletto), Dottore Grenvil (La Traviata), and Zweiter Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte). His European credits also include Illo in Wallenstein at Theater Osnabrück, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor at Königswusterhausen Hall in Berlin, and performances with Vienna’s Teatro Barocco as the Musikmeister in Il Maestro di Cappella and Jarbas in Der Tod der Dido. An active concert soloist, Chen has appeared as bass soloist in Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem with the Arad Philharmonic, Saint-Saëns’s Oratorio de Noël with the Bucharest Philharmonic, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Japan. Originally from China, Chen received his Bachelor’s degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He went on to earn his first Master’s degree in Opera from the Tokyo University of the Arts on a full Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship, and is currently completing a second Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, supported by the Anny Felbermayer Foundation Scholarship. A distinguished competition artist, his honors include advancing to the third round of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World (2021), the Special Jury Prize at the József Simándy International Singing Competition, Second Prize at the Lithuanian International Opera Competition, First Prize at the Sorel Music Competition (Japan), Gold Prize at the Japan–Italy Singing Competition, First Prize at the China Student Lieder Competition, and the Excellence Prize at the Madama Butterfly International Singing Competition in Nagasaki.
