Sandra Laagus is an Estonian mezzo-soprano currently based in Berlin. She began her musical education as a violinist before studying classical singing at the Tallinn Music High School and later at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Recent highlights include appearances at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann alongside Benjamin Bernheim, as well as performances in a new production of Das schlaue Füchslein under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. Her concert repertoire features works such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 and Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. On stage, she has appeared as Wellgunde (Das Rheingold), Papagena and Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Third Wood Sprite (Rusalka), Dackel and Specht (Das schlaue Füchslein), Flora (La Traviata), Blumenmädchen (Parsifal), and Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos), among others. Sandra has collaborated with conductors including Philippe Jordan, Sir Simon Rattle, Tomáš Hanus, Carlo Montanaro, Robert Jindra, Alexander Soddy, Finnegan Downie Dear, Olari Elts and others. She has also participated in masterclasses with artists such as Michael Volle, Waltraud Meier, Elena Pankratova, Camilla Nylund, Hedwig Fassbender, and Bernarda Fink. Between seasons 2024/2026, she has been a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.
