November 23/24: Michał Sławecki is Witold Gombrowicz in the world premiere of History in Warsaw
On November 23/24 the Polska Opera Królewska will present the world premiere of History by Michał Dobrzyński, commissioned for the Celebrations of the Year of Witold Gombrowicz announced by the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
Sławecki will embody the role of the legendary writer, whose life is intertwined with the plot of his play History (original title Operetka) of 1966. Dobrzyński created the libretto of his opera from the manuscript and some previously unpublished fragments.
Sławecki regularly collaborates with eminent contemporary composers. We mention his collaboration with Kaija Saariaho, who invited him to perform the main role of her Only The Sound Remains in Tokyo (Bunka Kaikan), Venice (La Biennale Musica) and Strasbourg (Opèra National du Rhin).
His further engagements include his triple debut with the Berner Symphonieorchester, the Münchner Philharmoniker and the Dresden Philharmonie, conducted by Krzystof Urbanski.
