Praised by the press as “a rising-star”, Chinese tenor Anle Gou continues his ascent on the international operatic stage this autumn with his return to the Glyndebourne Autumn Festival as Conte Almaviva in Gioachino Rossini’s masterpiece Il Barbiere di Siviglia, running from 15 October to 7 November.

Widely praised for his stylish Belcanto technique and vibrant stage presence, Gou is rapidly establishing himself as “one of the most promising Rossini tenors of his generation”. Critics have highlighted his “rare, dazzling and lyric voice” and his ability to bring elegance and dramatic vitality to the Rossini repertoire.

At Glyndebourne, Gou joins an international cast led by mezzo-soprano Hongni Wu as Rosina, baritone Lluis Calvet i Pey as Figaro, and baritone Fabio Capitanucci as Dr Bartolo. The production is conducted by Chloe Rooke and directed by Annabel Arden, in Glyndebourne’s colourful and much-loved staging.

Alongside his debut at Glyndebourne, recent and upcoming highlights in Gou’s rapidly developing career include appearances in leading Belcanto and Mozart roles across Europe, including his long awaited house debut at the Opernhaus Zürich conducted by Christophe Rousset and with Les Talens Lyrique.
