Diana Alexe interviewed by the Italian magazine L’Opera

On the May issue of L’Opera - International Magazine (the most important Italian trade media) the musicologist and music critic Giancarlo Landini interviewed Diana Alexe, about her recent success at the Lithuanian Opera & Ballet Theatre as Gilda in Rigoletto and her studies in Romania and in Vienna. A huge part of the interview was dedicated to her present and future roles:  GildaVioletta, Juliette and many others

Here some excerpts from the interview:

About Gilda

❝Musically, Gilda is often misunderstood. While she does require brilliance and agility, especially in 'Caro nome', this is only the beginning. Verdi has given her a complex emotional arc that requires extreme precision and clarity of coloratura, as well as phrasing that is both athletic and emotionally fluid. To sing Gilda is to expose oneself completely. Every breath becomes a decision. When I reach the final duet with Rigoletto, I no longer see Gilda as a girl, but as a woman who dared to choose her own ending.❞

Violetta

❝Violetta is a character who undergoes various physical and psychological changes, each of which requires the performer to demonstrate different qualities. Performing the role was challenging both vocally and emotionally, but it also allowed me to discover a new aspect of my own personality. I have learnt that, in order to fully embody Violetta, one must strike a balance between her pain and her strength, allowing the character to evolve while never losing sight of her deep humanity.❞

Her next goals

❝I am deeply attracted to both Italian Belcanto and French repertoire. Roles such as Amina, Ophélie and Marguerite de Valois are ideal for my voice, as they allow coloratura to shine not only as a virtuoso performance, but also as an emotional language. After singing the role of Juliette in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, I developed a real ‘appetite’ for the French repertoire — perhaps one day I will perform the role of Manon in Massenet's masterpiece. In the near future, I will be performing the role of Elvira in I Puritani.❞

Her upcoming engagements include  Violetta in a gala performance of La Traviataat the Opera Aperta Festival of the Opera Naţională Română in Cluj-Napoca,  her debut as Rosina in Mozart's La Finta Semplice at the Festival de La Coruña, the role debut as Elvira in I Puritani and La Traviata at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.
