"Tremendously moving": Lana Kos triumphs in Catania as Desdemona

On November 21 Lana Kos made her house debut at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, performing one of her signature role, Desdemona in Verdi's Otello, under the baton of the Artistic Director of the House, Fabrizion Maria Carminati.

We share with you the beautiful reviews about her performances.

“Lana Kos’ Desdemona — the Croatian soprano whose debut as Violetta in La Traviata at the Maribor Theatre I had the opportunity to attend years ago — stands out for her noble vocal line and masterful control of soft dynamics, especially in pianoand pianissimo, which she delivers with great refinement. She projects her high notes with firmnessand portrays aninnocent yet resolute woman in anadmirableperformance.”

Andrea Merli - I Teatri dell’Est

“Lana Kos distinguished herself in the role of Desdemona, the unfortunate bride ofthe Moor. The Croatian soprano performed the love duet with Otello ('Già nella notte densa') with a clear voice and elegant stage presence. In Act IV, Kos was admirable in the famous willow song, in the Prayer and in the tragic final duet with Otello.”

Dario Miozzi, Musica - La Rivista

“Wisely balanced between lyric soprano and dramatic soprano, Lana Kos' Desdemona is tremendously moving when she realises that her destiny of flesh, blood and madness tragically coincides with her identity, and that “avoiding” it would therefore be almost illogical.”

Carmelita Celi, La Sicilia

“Desdemona is performed by Lana Kos. The soprano gave substance and voice to the quintessential victim, innocent and pure, in love but dignified until death; her performance was moving, especially during the final “delirium” of the Willow Song and the Ave Maria.”
